Deep bite correction in Yerevan

A deep bite overloads the front teeth, wears the enamel and injures the gums. We correct it with braces and aligners, and in children with plates and trainers.

A deep bite is an anomaly in which the upper incisors overlap the lower ones by more than a third of the crown height. Outwardly the lower third of the face is shortened, the crease under the lower lip is pronounced and the lip itself turns outward. Inside the mouth the lower incisors may injure the palate and the upper ones the gum.

The causes are heredity, congenital jaw structure, prolonged thumb or dummy sucking, lip biting, late loss of milk teeth and mouth breathing. In adults a deep bite is worsened by tooth loss, wear and old incorrect restorations that lower the bite height.

Untreated, the front teeth wear down and become sensitive, the gums inflame and get injured, the joint is overloaded and headaches appear. In adults a deep bite is corrected with braces or aligners over at least 12–14 months. In children treatment is simpler: plates, trainers and functional appliances guide jaw growth while the bite is still forming. At iOrtho in Yerevan the plan is chosen from 3D diagnostics.

Benefits

  • We stop the wear

Correct overlap relieves the incisors — the enamel stops wearing and sensitivity goes away.

  • Braces or aligners

Metal braces handle a severe deep bite; aligners with bite ramps suit mild and moderate forms.

  • In children — without braces

In the mixed dentition plates and trainers reshape jaw growth and muscle function.

  • No planning errors

The 3D model shows whether there is enough room in the lower arch; the doctor settles the question of stripping or extraction in advance.

  • The lower teeth touch the palate, the upper ones injure the gum

Care rules

  • Solid food for children

Apples, carrots and crusts give the teeth the right load and stimulate jaw growth.

  • No habits

Wean the child off the dummy and thumb, watch head position during sleep and chin propping.

  • ENT and teeth

Treat adenoids, nasal congestion and caries in time: they sustain the deep bite.

Questions and answers

Can a deep bite be fixed in adults?

Yes, with braces or aligners. Treatment takes at least 12–14 months; if there is not enough room in the lower arch, the doctor plans stripping or removal of individual teeth in advance.

How is a deep bite treated in a child?

In the mixed dentition — with plates, trainers and functional appliances that guide jaw growth. Braces are possible from 12, after the teeth have changed.

Why treat a deep bite if it does not bother me?

It overloads the front teeth: the enamel wears, the teeth become sensitive and loose, the gums get injured, and the joint and chewing muscles work under strain.
