Retention trays are clear individual trays worn only at night so the teeth do not drift back. They are often combined with a fixed retainer — a thin wire on the inside of the teeth.

Care rules

  • Cleaning

    Every morning — a soft brush and non-abrasive paste, cool water only; weekly — disinfection with effervescent tablets.

  • Storage

    Only in the case; no eating or hot drinks with the trays in.

Questions and answers

Are a tray and a retainer the same thing?

Retainer is the general name for appliances that hold teeth after treatment: removable trays and a fixed wire.

What if I have not worn the trays for a long time?

Do not force the old trays on — see the doctor; a new set may be needed.
