Damon Clear is Ormco's ceramic self-ligating brace system. The brackets are made of polycrystalline alumina with a matte translucent surface and anti-glare coating, and can come with a white archwire. The system does not reflect light and is practically invisible on the teeth, so it suits adults and teenagers who do not want to draw attention to their treatment.

The wire is held by the SpinTek clip, which is part of the bracket itself. It does not pinch the wire: the wire slides freely and transfers constant but very gentle forces to the teeth. This reduces friction and soreness, lowers the risk of root damage and speeds up correction by 4–5 months compared with ligature systems. The doctor opens and closes the clip in seconds, so wire changes are quick and put no pressure on the teeth.

The ceramic does not darken from coffee, tea or red wine, does not absorb odours or bacteria, resists chipping and is hypoallergenic. Adaptation takes no more than 5–7 days. Damon Clear treats the full range of bite anomalies except cases needing surgery, and when required is combined with Damon Q metal braces on the lower jaw.

    Wire changes

    From a thin flexible wire to stiffer ones — every 4–6 weeks. The SpinTek clip opens in seconds, so visits are short.

    Removal and retention

    The braces are removed without heavy pressure on the enamel, the teeth are polished, retainers are bonded and retention trays are made.

Care rules

  • Hygiene

    Brush after every meal, use interdental brushes and a water flosser; professional cleaning every 3–4 months.

  • Food

    Do not bite hard things, cut fruit and meat into pieces, avoid sticky sweets.

  • Check-ups

    Do not skip scheduled visits: the doctor changes wires and catches caries at the white-spot stage.

Questions and answers

Is Damon Clear visible in conversation?

The clear ceramic and white wire practically blend with the enamel. Colleagues and friends may not even realise you are in treatment.

Can Damon Clear fix crowding?

Yes, mild and moderate crowding. In complex cases the doctor may combine Damon Clear with Damon Q metal braces on the lower jaw.

Are there any limitations?

Ceramic brackets are not placed on very small teeth — they may come off and the wire force will be distributed incorrectly. Damon Q suits such cases.
